This past weekend, as you all probably know, was the Superbowl! Being a die-hard New York Jets fan, I was not to excited for the superbowl as the two teams I dislike the most (Patriots and Giants) were playing. I had no one to root for! But I had to watch the game for an assignment, so I headed to Frank's Lounge in the University Center to watch the game. The Torero Program Board made the event awesome by providing free food (guacamole, mozzarella sticks....all the good stuff!) and giving out free raffle tickets. Needless to say, it was pretty awesome. The Torero Program Board is an organization on campus that provides students with free events on campus. It makes life a lot more easier (and fun!) for students who want to have fun without burning holes in their pockets. Every friday night they play a movie on a large projector screen outside (and there's usually free food =), and they have tailgate events before big games as well as a bunch of other fun events. It made this dreaded Patriots and Giants super bowl MUCH more enjoyable. Thanks TPB!
Today was another exciting event, the Alcala Bazaar! Every semester the school hosts this event, where every club and organization on campus represents themselves. They each have a table with representatives and sign up sheets. It's a great way to get involved and to see what else is on campus. I stopped by with my freshly bakes (and quite delicious) cupcakes. I love to bake, and I made red velvet, cinnamon, and triple chocolate cupcakes for each of the groups I was a part of. I brought a group to my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, the a cappella group Treble Threat, and USDtv. The event was packed with students, those involved, and those seeking involvement. I'd say it was quite a success!

Finally Back at USD!
After a very stress-free, relaxing winter break, it is so incredible to finally be back at USD! My name is Caroline, and I'm currently a sophomore (wow it's going fast!) majoring in Communication Studies and English. I'm from New Jersey, so being at USD is a very different environment than what I was used to in high school. Luckily for me, the community at USD has made me feel right at home since the very beginning, and while I miss my family and friends at home, I have a whole other family right here on campus.
It hasn't been quite a week into the semester, and things are already in full swing! This semester I'm taking all upper-division classes. I've finally completed the required lower-division "intro" classes which really helped me get an idea with what I want to do with my life, but I'm loving the specificity of the my upper division classes. In both of my majors, there is a wide variety of classes, which makes it easy to find classes that are very specific to your interests. I want to work in journalism, however there are other Comm Studies majors who aspire to work in Human Resources, Public Relations, advertising, and marketing. The program is very flexible, which is one of my favorite things about it!
The weekend is just around the corner, and I'm anxiously awaiting a Greek life retreat that I'll be attending this Friday.
Until later
- Caroline =)
